St. Paddy’s Palooza
Queue the Bagpipes and head to Innsbrook this Saturday for their annual St. Patrick’s Day event, St. Paddy’s Palooza. The spirited festival will include live music, food and beer vendors, and plenty of kid friendly activities to occupy your little ones. The free event will benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, so you can party for a cause and since you can’t celebrate St. Paddy’s Day without something green, make sure to wear your green gear to avoid pinches throughout the day.
Cook Like the Irish at Sur La Table
Get ready for a day of drinking and kick off St. Paddy’s at the Sur La Table kitchen. At Sur La Table you will learn new skills that you can take back to your own kitchen and how to make an easy to replicate at home meal. On Saturday morning, forgetting heading to your usual brunch spot and stop by Sur La Table for a traditional Irish Bread making class. During the class you will learn the ins and outs of kneading and rolling dough and how to make traditional Irish soda bread with homemade sweet butter.
Shamrock the Block
You can’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Richmond without stopping by Shamrock the Block. The annual event will take over the Boulevard from Leigh to Broad Street and it also kicks off Richmond’s outdoor festival season. Shamrock the Block is free to attend, but make sure to bring the green and grab some grub from local vendors and remember to stay hydrated with water and a few green beers. The party will last until 6pm, so make sure to get there early so you don’t get lost in the sea of green on Boulevard.
Grab a Pint at Your Favorite Irish Pub
Whether you love Guinness or Jameson, you can’t celebrate St. Paddy’s Day without them. So this Saturday make time to stop by one of your favorite, local Irish Pubs for a pint. At Siné’s they are serving up local RVA and Irish pints at the bar that pair perfectly with their traditional Irish dishes, like Shepherd’s Pie and Cornbeef and Cabbage. On Saturday they are hosting their very own St. Paddy’s Day celebration that will make you feel like you are partying in Dublin. If you can’t push past the crowd in the Bottom, head to F.W. Sullivan’s for their 9th annual St. Paddy’s party or check out local favorite that’s been around since 2003, Penny Lane Pub.
Church Hill Irish Festival
If you aren’t ready to say goodbye to St. Paddy’s Day just yet, then make plans to attend the Church Hill Irish Festival the weekend after St. Patrick’s Day. The two day festival will benefit the St. Baldrick’s Society, the Church Hill Association and the historic preservation of St. Patrick’s Church, which was built in the 1850’s by Irish immigrants to Richmond. The festival has a packed schedule with a parade to kick off the event, live music and over thirty Irish vendors to keep you fed and hydrated all day long.
