There’s nothing like getting out of the office and doing something to help the community. Group volunteer opportunities are a fantastic way to strength the bonds of your team - as together, you can all learn something new, have fun, and feel good about giving back to the community.
Without further ado, here are 5 volunteer opportunities for team building in Richmond!
The Richmond SPCA will host groups to help with getting dogs out of the kennels and into a leash. Pair up with a dog, a go on a leisurely stroll through the surround area, and make sure to give them plenty of pets! If walking dogs isn’t your style, other group activities include bleaching leashes, cleaning kennels, and much more! These 1-2 hour group activities are flexible, and you can even help with the Wish List drive to help stock up the SPCA!
There’s little in Richmond that can compare to the beauty of Maymont - sometimes its hard to believe you’re still in the city when you’re surrounded by bamboo on that narrow path down to the Japanese gardens.
Group volunteer activities include staffing Dominion Family Easter, cleaning algae from the pond (it always needs some scooping), helping out at the fantastic festival Herbs Galore & More, or even getting the opportunity of a lifetime to go into the bear pit and help clear out invasive plant species!
Out near the James River and Route 288, Shalom Farms is the best place to get your team’s hands dirty - doing some farming. The spring is the perfect time to visit, as you can help till, aerate, and ready soil - and after, plant whatever they need! The staff are incredibly welcoming, and this locally owned farm co-op wouldn’t be able to run without the efforts of volunteer groups like yours! Whether you’re working in the green houses or out in the fields, you’re guaranteed to feel accomplished (and ready for a nap) after helping out here!
If nothing warms your heart like seeing rescued animals being adopted to a loving home, the Richmond Animal League’s Petsmart Adoption events are perfect for your team! These events are often held on weekends, so you don’t even need to interrupt your team’s workflow. Duties include loading and off-loading supplies, socializing with the animals, and talking to prospective adopters.
Hanover Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore program helps to build affordable homes in the surrounding region by selling donated materials. Your team can inspect donations, as well as cleaning and pricing incoming donations, tidying displays, and helping Habitat for Humanity customers.
Events always need volunteers. From donation collection to trash pick up, and from set-up to tear down, volunteers are the driving force behind every RVA event, like the Folk Festival, Watermelon Festival, Bacon festival, and many more!
Just around the corner is Shamrock the Block, Richmond’s best St. Patrick’s Day festival. All that volunteers need to do is have fun, show their St. Patty’s day pride, and pour wine and beer for festival attendees! Shamrock the Block volunteers can work either a morning or afternoon shift (with a free meal included), so you can still join in on the festival experience without any responsibilities!
If you’re planning a special occasion, we can help make it memorable by connecting you with venues, unique events and corporate team-building activities.
