We’ve all been in that situation. You know, the one where you show up to a party hosted by a friend, and… it’s just not all that much fun. We promise ourselves, “Not me. The next party I throw will be awesome.”
Next thing you know, it’s the week of your party, and you’re drawing a blank - but don’t worry, here are five great ideas for your next get together!
Are you the embodiment of the classic Richmond foodie? Have all your favorite restaurants grown a little blase? Next time you go out, check out a pop-up restaurant!
Broken Tulip actually started as a pop up restaurant, and now, they’re paying it forward. Every Tuesday, Kudzu Ramen will be cooking in their kitchen, and serving up some truly delicious bowls.
Another great pop up experience is Passport RVA, which is hosted in the Belle and James every weekend. For three month intervals, chef Mike Ledesma creates cuisine inspired by a different country’s fare.
No matter where you go, you’re bound to impress your guests - the experience of a pop-up restaurant is simultaneously intimate and a charged and exciting atmosphere - it’s a truly unique outing that your friends will be talking about for a long time!
If your friends are the active type but still enjoy the finer things in life and want to experience some of the best that Richmond has to offer, try a food tour! See the sights while getting a taste of the best restaurants in town, whether on bike or foot.

Like the sound of a food tour through Richmond, but looking for something a little more… hoppin’?
Then a brewery tour is the perfect fit for you and your friends! Richmond Brewery Tours will take you to fourteen different breweries and three ciders. Hop on their comfy bus so you can get a taste of all the beers RVA has to offer without any worry!
Every Richmond Kicker’s game is a party unto itself. Tickets are only $12, and beers are $5! The Red Army is an absolute hoot, and you’ll find yourself pulled in even if you’re not a soccer fan!
There’s always some sort of event going on too - whether it’s live music, Military Appreciation Night, or LGBTQ+ Spirit Night, there’s something for everyone! Plus, fireworks!
Yup, ax throwing! And there’s two locations you can visit in Richmond to get your ax-throwing on - Bad Axe Throwing in Scott’s Addition, and Thirsty Joe’s Drafthouse (every Tuesday and Wednesday) in Carytown! If your friend group likes beer, but wants a little more action, ax throwing is the perfect fit!
It’s some serious fun too! There’s nothing quite like launching an ax twelve feet into a wooden target and feeling the ax head sink into splitting wood! It’s a great way to blow off steam, have some laughs, and share some drinks and new experiences with your friends. When you suggest it, you might get some raised eyebrows, but after five minutes of chucking axes and enjoying a few taste brews, your friend group will be asking themselves why they didn’t do this sooner.
If you’re planning a special occasion, we can help make it memorable by connecting you with venues, unique events and corporate team-building activities.
