Go Green at the Charlotte Goes Green Festival
Grab your green gear and head to Uptown this St. Patrick’s Day for the 22nd Annual Charlotte St. Pats Parade and the Charlotte Goes Green Festival. The parade kicks off the celebration at 11am with bagpipes and drums, Irish dancers, floats and anyone else who wants to be Irish for the day. After the parade makes its way through Uptown, the party really begins with the Charlotte Goes Green Festival. Enjoy Irish music and food and learn more about Irish culture from the Irish and Celtic vendors. The free festival will last until 6pm, so make sure to get there early so you don’t get lost in Uptown’s sea of green.
Cook Like the Irish with Chef Alyssa
If you’ve always wanted to cook like the Irish, then head to Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen the Friday before St. Paddy’s for their 4th annual South End Pub Fare cooking class. At Chef Alyssa’s you will learn new cooking techniques that you can take back to your own kitchen and how to make a meal that you can easily replicate at home. Their Pub Fare class is back by popular demand and it’s Chef Alyssa’s version of a local brewery tour. During the class you will incorporate beers from your favorite South End breweries into pub style dishes with Irish and British flavors.
Green River Revival at the USNWC
Skip the crowded bars this St. Paddy’s and head to the USNWC for their St. Patrick’s Day celebration, the 9th annual Green River Revival. The entire Whitewater Center goes green for the holiday and you’ll need the luck of the Irish to avoid being turned green during the Color Me Green 5K Trail Run. After the run, the party really begins with live music from the River Jam Stage and the highlight of the evening, when the river turns green. The Green River Revival also kicks off the USNWC’s outdoor festival season, so you’ll have plenty of reasons to celebrate this Saturday.
Get Cultured at the Celtic Festival
Head to the Historic Latta Plantation this St. Patrick’s Day and grab tickets for the 6th Annual Latta Celtic Festival. The two day festival is a celebration of Celtic culture and the event will be the only one of it’s kind in the Charlotte area. Enjoy live music from local and regional Celtic bands, taste traditional Celtic dishes and shop from local Celtic vendors. The Latta Plantation will be transformed with living history demonstrations where you can meet Celtic soldiers from across history and you can even meet with local Celtic Clan representatives and see if you have the luck of the Irish.
Grab a Pint at Your Favorite Irish Pub
Whether you love Guinness or Jameson, you can’t celebrate St. Paddy’s Day without them. So this Saturday make time to stop by one of your favorite, local Irish pubs for a pint. Rí Rá is one of Charlotte’s most traditional Irish pubs and they are serving up your favorite local and Irish brews that pair perfectly with their savory Shepherd’s Pie. If you can’t push past the Uptown crowd, then check out Belfast Mill Irish Pub, where you will feel like you are partying in the heart of Dublin or head to Plaza’s favorite Irish, neighborhood bar, Workman’s Friend.
Drink Your Way Through Uptown with Rich and Bennett
There’s nothing that gets you in the mood to party like the Irish than a Rich and Bennett’s bar crawl, and now in its 18th year, this Uptown crawl is bound to be the best one yet. Since 2001, Rich and Bennett’s St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl has become the largest, local pub crawl and patrons from neighboring towns to Ireland and Brazil come to the the Queen City to party through Uptown. All participating bars will be cover free, as long as you have your bar crawl t-shirt and expect plenty of drink special throughout the day.
