With 17 craft breweries (and more to come) it can be hard to navigate Charlotte’s developing beer scene. So here’s the ever evolving guide to craft breweries in Queen City!
What do you do when you are tired of your corporate and tiresome job? Well the founders of Birdsong Brewing decided to brew craft beer. They saw the need for a small neighborhood brewery, somewhere you could grab a pint after work and a growler to go. Their staples like the Higher Ground IPA and Jalapeno Pale Ale can be found in bars and restaurants across Charlotte.
Legion Brewing, Plaza Midwoods first brewery is bringing diversity to Charlotte’s craft beer scene. Not only are they using local products, they are pushing the boundaries of what craft beer tastes like. From the tart Carolina Sparkle Party Berliner Weisse, to one of everyone’s favorite local IPAs, the Juicy J, you’ll never know what they have brewing up their sleeves at Legion.

Catawba Brewing Co. may be one of Charlotte’s newest breweries, but it’s been a work in progress since 1994. Catawba’s founder received a home brew kit and the rest was history. From Morgantown to Asheville and now Charlotte, they are a local NC favorite. Their massive taproom in Plaza has locals running to socialize, grab some grub from a food truck and of course, drink great beer. You’ll find a little bit of everything from cream ales (Farmer Ted) to IPAs (CLT IPA).
Sycamore Brewing, a local staple is most known for their Food Truck Friday’s, which is a Queen City favorite, but their beer is also down right delicious. The go to Southern Girl American Blonde or the crisp Countryside American IPA, makes for the perfect pair while watching the sunset on their patio. But if craft beer isn’t your thing, Sycamore understands, they also serve Prosecco pop’s with King of Pop’s popsicles if that’s more your speed.
Sugar Creek Brewing, located in LoSo is dedicated to brewing the best Belgian styled beer in the Carolina’s, but they also know sometimes, you’ve got to break the rules. They know brewing the best Belgian beer takes time and skill, but they also want to incorporate new flavors and complex craft beers. So whether you are looking for a traditional Belgian, like their White Ale or are looking to get out of the box with their Raspberry White Ale, your taste buds will be pleased at Sugar Creek.
