The Thirsty Beaver Saloon, located in Plaza Midwood, is one of Charlotte’s most beloved dive bars and has been serving canned PBR’s and pickle back shots to locals since 2008. The local watering hole is visited by a variety of patrons and with plenty of space at the bar and pool tables in the back, you’ll never feel out of place. The Beaver is now surrounded by an upcoming apartment building, but don’t fret, the bar has no intention of making any changes.
Take a drive just outside of the city and you’ll find one of Charlotte’s most hidden dive bars, Smokey Joe’s. With over 120 beers, a fully stocked bar, ping pong table and pool, it’s no wonder that Smokey Joe’s has been a local favorite for so long. They also have something most Charlotte bars don’t have, live music. They host a number of local and regional musicians almost every night, so head to the bar or the outdoor patio, there’s never a bad seat at Smokey Joe’s.
Comet Grill has been a local favorite since 1996 and with free live music, great burgers and even better drinks there no guess as to why the bar has been a staple for so long. You’ll find all your bar food fav’s on the menu, from comet queso and their award-winning fries. Their bar has local and regional brews on draft and is fully-stocked so you’ll never go thirsty. Their bar is filled with live music nightly, so after you grab a drink you can dance the night away at Comet Grill.
If Uptown bars aren’t really your scene, think again and check out The Local. The Local has a small, neighborhood bar vibe but with a prime location, the heart of Uptown to be exact. The Local is serving up what locals have been asking for, good eats, great prices and even better drinks. They offer happy hour specials Monday through Friday and are open every night until 2 am, so even if your Saturday night out turns into a Sunday funday, The Local has you covered.
Belfast Mill Irish Pub
Next time you’re going out for a drink, head to The Belfast Mill Irish Pub for an authentic Irish pub experience. At Belfast Mill you’ll always find a soccer game on the tv’s, plenty of Guinness and Irish brews on draft and a selection of over 30 Irish whiskies. Since opening in 2011, Belfast Mill has become a local favorite and from weekly dart tournaments and meetings of the Brevard Whiskey Club, it’s easy to see that this is Uptown’s go-to Irish pub.
